Dr Brighu Swamy's expertise is in the diagnosis, treatment and care of patients with retinal conditions. His particular interests are macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and vein occlusions.

He graduated with Honours in Medicine from the University of New South Wales, then earned a Master of Medicine in Ophthalmic Science and a Master of Medicine with merit in Clinical Epidemiology at the University of Sydney. Dr Swamy completed his ophthalmology training at Sydney Eye Hospital before undertaking a Medical Retina and Uveitis fellowship at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London.

As co-author of the Eye Emergency Manual—now used in hospitals across New South Wales—and author of multiple papers in leading international ophthalmology journals, Dr Swamy remains actively involved in research. He serves as a peer reviewer for the RANZCO college journal and regularly attends international conferences to stay abreast of the latest developments in medical retina.

He has participated in several international clinical trials exploring new treatments for macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and uveitis, ensuring his patients benefit from emerging advances. In addition to his clinical practice, he is a Clinical Lecturer at the University of Sydney and a Visiting Medical Officer at Bankstown Hospital, where he teaches and supervises ophthalmology registrars.
